[NM] NM1 - remarkable patches

Hi,
Hmmm. This whole discussion has stirred my conscience. It would be moot
if I would settle down and finish the library system that I did once
start for the archive so that it could be easily searched and treasures
of this nature found.
I will get going on it again.
However ... I do recall one problem I ran into.
Wout ... if you're there, I need the patch archive uploaded onto my own
server so that I can write a decent collection of php scripts, sort out
a good database structure and so forth. Howard does not seem to want me
running random test scripts on the electromusic server (so
unimaginative, that man!!!!). I have several times tried to download the
zipped patch archive but it never seems to work properly. Could you
please assist me with downloading and then uploading the patch archive
onto my server for me?
I still have a flow chart I'd designed. I'm going to use a combination
of XML, PHP and MySQL. There is no really satisfactory XML database
right now, but PHP has some nifty scripts that manipulate XML, and of
course using it with PHP is something that lots of people on this list
are familiar with if I want help. The G2 patch structure is currently
unknown, but that doesn't mean that it'll always stay that way!! If ever
it's deciphered, it seems to me that XML would be the way to handle it.
Furthermore, with XML, we could soon build up a possibly workable
translation system between module equivalents on the G1 and G2, so that
we can then start designing some scripts that would translate G1 patches
into roughly equivalent G2 ones and that way at least provide a
starting-point for making the best use of the G1 patch archive for G2
owners. That kind of thing is much more easily done and experimented
with using XML than only sticking with PHP and MySQL. So I therefore I
think it worth the extra hassle involved in going that route, as well as
all that's involved with XSLT. It's the best way to take advantage of
the very high degree of intelligence, experimentation, and collective
community spirit for which this list is so renowned. A coordinated G1-G2
library would have a lot of uses for both kinds of users in that many
questions are the same for both.
I really will try to get the G1 patch archive done now.
The last couple of years have really not left me with much free time as
my long absences from this list will attest.
But ... the first step is to get the complete patch archive uploaded
onto my server so I can quietly experiment, design and write the
necessary scripts etc. So ... if I could get some help on that, I'll be
very grateful and then happily set to work. God alone knows how long it
would take, though.
With every good wish,
(K)ofi (B)usia
